479th Fighter Group 'Riddle'S Raiders' BY John Stanaway 9781846034206 | eBay

Formed in October 1943 as part of the last group of fighter units to be
sent into combat in northern Europe and the Pacific, the 479th FG wrote
for itself an impressive history whilst flying against the Luftwaffe
from RAF Wattisham in rural Suffolk. Despite the group's P-38s not being
highly regarded in the Eighth Air Force due to their unsuitability for
high-altitude combat, the 479th's pilots had a fierce pride of arms.
Their fighting spirit, which saw the group destroy hundreds of German
aircraft, earned the 479th a Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation in
the late summer of 1944. The 479th transitioned to the P-51 Mustang in
the autumn of 1944, and by VE-Day, some 29 aces had been created by the
group, which had claimed more than 430 kills. Book jacket.

black man who was kidnapped into slavery in Louisiana. For the first

places who Solomon Northup writes about. These are not actors, these
are the portraits of the men and women who Northup met. This edition
contains historic photographs, some never published before, of the areas
and people of the Northup story. The illustrator lives in Avoyelles
Parish and has spent a lifetime collecting historic photos. Most of the
portraits and scenes in this edition taken from the files of his
Avoyelles Parish archives. Many descendants of these families still
reside in the area today. This edition of the book is dedicated to the
memory of Dr. Sue Lyles Eakin who spent a lifetime researching and
promoting the story of Solomon Northrup. This edition compliments her
work and her earlier edition of the 12 years a slave work. For footnotes
and more detail about the 12 years a slave book we also recommend Dr.
Eakin's work so a reader can get a more complete understanding of the
this important story. The story has been told in plays, movies and even

Beschreibung: Symptomatisch für viele Familien von Betroffenen wurde auch Benjamins Schicksal als Opfer der NS-"Euthanasie" in seiner Familie lange verschwiegen. Obwohl dieses Schreckenskapitel des Nationalsozialismus seit längerem wissenschaftlich erforscht ist, steht seine Aufarbeitung in den betroffenen Familien sowie die gesellschaftliche und politische Rehabilitierung der "Euthanasie"-Opfer erst am Anfang. An ihnen wird abstrakte Geschichte zu persönlichem Schicksal. Mit ihrer Inschrift entreißen sie die Opfer dem namenlosen Unheil und der gesichtslosen Leidensgeschichte von Millionen. So hilft der Stein, die Würde eines Menschen, der von diesem Ort ausgehend zum Opfer brutaler Menschenverachtung wurde, wieder aufzurichten.
In seinem Buch rekonstruiert Hartmut Traub den Lebens- und Leidensweg seines Onkels Benjamin Traub und stellt dessen Schicksal in Zusammenhänge der Nachkriegs- und Gegenwartsgeschichte.
Autorenportrait: Dr. Hartmut Traub, geb. 1952, arbeitet als Studiendirektor am Zentrum für schulpraktische Lehrerausbildung in Essen. Er ist Autor philosophischer Fachbücher und Mitherausgeber einer philosophischen Zeitschrift. Im Klartext Verlag erschien 2009 unter dem Titel "Gott hat ja mit jedem so seinen Extraplan" die Biographie über seinen Vater, den Mülheimer Künstler und Kulturschaffenden Daniel Traub.
